Week #7 of Weekly Women Entrepreneurship!

Welcome to Week #7 of Weekly Women Entrepreneurship

Next week on Montclair State University’s virtual campus we’ll focus on the Future of Work - in particular workplaces and childcare, all of which have been upended during this pandemic.

Our featured founder is Alex West Steinman, Co-Founder/CEO, The Coven based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 2017, Alex West Steinman teamed up with three other Minneapolis-area PR and advertising professionals to create a femme-forward co-working space with the mission to “economically empower women by providing safe, accessible space for personal and professional transformation.” After crowdfunding its first location, the Coven grew to 500 members within a year. For every five memberships purchased, the Coven gives one to a member of the community who can’t afford it, “prioritizing people of color, folks from the LGBTQ community, those who are differently abled, immigrants, and veterans,” it says. The broad goal for West Steinman and her team is to corner the middle of the country, “underdog cities,” as the Coven calls them. It wants to open more than 20 locations in the next five years. West Steinman was named Inc. Female Founders 100 List in August 2020.

We’re also excited to feature a conversation hosted by The Co-Co, a co-working space based in Summit, New Jersey. This panel discussion titled, Why Community Comes First was featured recently in the Women in Tech Forum / Propelify 2020 virtual conference. This is a very timely discussion about the importance of community as a lifeline during these times of increasing isolation.

Lastly, Gigi Schweikert, President/COO of LightBridge Academy sits down with us exclusively to discuss the important, and sometimes challenging, aspects of entrepreneurial leadership, including how to have the difficult conversations that will help your team(s) improve, why to strive for respect vs. being liked, why it is important to make the right decision vs. the popular one and how to take personal accountability as a leader.
